The "DOLLICIOUS " Doll Show and Sale began with two friends on a mission. Michael Wolk-Laniewski and Sharon Napier wanted to produce a doll show that they would like to go to, as a customer, and to sell at, as a dealer. Having been both customers and dealers, we know what we like and don't like. We used what we liked to make our show the best and biggest doll show in Michigan.
Honest, intelligent, trustworthy, creative, hard working, dependable, sensitive and kind are just some of the adjectives that describe Michael Wolk-Laniewski. He is the epitome of a "Gentleman". He is highly respected in the doll world for his experience and knowledge of dolls and doll collecting.
Beginning with his own childhood doll, (whose hair he restyled untill she was nearly bald). he began to collect dolls while on a trip to Europe in the late '60's. By the '70's, he began to sort through and sell some of the duplicate dolls he had collected. Reading and studying about dolls, he soon became the go-to-guy when club members and friends had questions about their dolls.
As a member of many doll clubs and a dealer for over 40 years, Michael has met and befriended hundreds of doll collectors from around the world. He is a member of the United Federation of Doll Clubs, Inc., Dolls and Friends Doll Club of Royal Oak Michigan and the Doll Doctors of America. He has been the President of many doll clubs. He has given many lectures on a variety of doll topics, including bonnet dolls, china heads, wooden, celluloid, cloth, specific cloth like Beecher and Alabama baby dolls, German dolls, and paper mache, are just a sampling of his interests.
Avid collector is an understatement. His collection is extensive and eclectic .
Michael excites collectors and friends with his enthusiasm. He has been a doll appraiser at both doll shows and appraisal fairs. He has been involved in running doll sales rooms at many doll conferences and shows. Through all of his collecting he has also worked full time as a hairdresser. He currently works at Fringe Salon in West Bloomfield, Michigan.
Wife, mother, homemaker ,dollmaker, doll artist, doll parts manufacturer, and doll show promoter.
Who would have thought 66 years ago that a young woman's life could change so much. The doll world has been a blessing and salvation. Three sons and a daughter left little time for pursuits outside of the home. Doll making and teaching reproduction doll making were an outlet for Sharon's creative efforts.
Collecting antique dolls was an extention of the doll making business. You can't reproduce an antique doll if you have never seen an antique doll.
With encouragement from doll club members, Sharon sent an origional doll for the Battle Creek UFDC regional Conference. The doll was accepted. 500 dolls later, "Sojourner Truth" was a Hit!
After years of making dolls for special luncheons, holiday parties and conventions, Sharon purchased a doll parts business,( Joyces Doll House of Parts) which sends doll parts to every corner of the world.
Sharon's husband Jan has taken more than a casual interest in her doll endeavors. He accompanies her to doll shows, does her computer set ups, does detective work on the dolls she collects, and supports her crazy habits. He has his own collection of Peter Pan so he understands her addiction.
Sharon's collections include, Antique Bisque German and French dolly face dolls, Kewpies, Half, pincushion and perfume dolls, American Indian dolls, Raggedy Ann & Andy, All bisque dolls under 10", Bride and Groom wedding cake toppers, Oriental and Black dolls, Piano babies, Teddy Bears, Christmas collectibles, AnnaLee figures, Vintage Clothing, Antique Fans, Hankies, Gloves and Hats and much more.
Sharon repairs antique dolls, sews doll clothes, makes replacement doll parts, does doll appraisals has been a board member of many clubs for the past 30 years and will never win an award for a spotless house. Life is so much more than clean floors! Her motto is "Have doll show, will travel"!
SHARON DIED AUGUST 2019. She is dearly missed.
